Showing Care and Compassion Through Health and Hope Kits

Growing up, I witnessed the desperation and frustration when a caregiver is sick and unable to provide for their family. After becoming a medical provider, I recognized the need for initiatives that deliver comfort and compassion to patients while providing care. This need is as true in the arid desert of North Kenya as it is for refugees and immigrants in North Raleigh, USA.

Our mission is to offer health access to underserved communities, providing hope through kits that affirm each individual’s right to health and well-being. After moving to North Raleigh five years ago, I saw the unique health barriers our community members face. Access to basic healthcare and understanding health systems are significant hurdles. These challenges, along with the need for resources to connect with care and provide food and essential supplies, led to the creation of our Health and Hope Kits.

We’re excited to announce our upcoming Medical Fair event on April 27th. This event isn’t just a date on the calendar; it’s a meaningful initiative to provide health access to refugees and immigrants in North Raleigh, a cause that deeply resonates with my experiences. We are privileged to host providers from Duke University Head and Cancer Center, among other esteemed partners, at this event.

At the Medical Fair, we’ll distribute Health and Hope Kits. These aren’t just care packages; they symbolize our commitment to supporting our community members’ unique health needs. The kits will include essential health supplies, educational materials, and resources to navigate local health systems.

We’re currently seeking support from well-wishers to donate food items like rice, cooking oil, bagged beans, and bar soap. Monetary contributions are also welcome through our website www.equihealthglobal.org. We’re thrilled to share that we’ve already received donations of toothbrushes, toothpaste, and the Gospel of John. We also plan to include a county-wide resources tool to connect the target group with essential services.

Stay tuned to this webpage for updates on the Medical Fair event and the impact of the Health and Hope Kits. We believe that together, we can make a difference in our community. We invite you to join us on this journey. Your support can bring us one step closer to our goal of health access for all.

In gratitude,

Julius Mwangi
